PHILIPPINES - THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has given around P33 million to the Provincial Government Capitol to rehabilitate aquatic farms and fishery equipment in northern Cebu, which were damaged by typhoon Yolanda.

 

According to the BFAR, 32 fish cages, 1,000 seaweed farms, five fish pens, 20 fish corrals and 12,550 fishing gear in northern Cebu were damaged by Yolanda, reports SunStar.

The BFAR said the damage on seaweed farms cost P15 million while that of fish cages reached P10 million. Damage to other fishery e quipment was reported to cost P8 million.

Task Force Paglig-on head Baltazar Tribunalo said, though, they will allocate the funds from BFAR according to priorities.

He said the damage to fisheries reported by affected local government units exceeded P33 million.

In a memorandum of agreement signed between Gov. Hilario Davide III and BFAR Director Asis Perez, the government aims to complete the rehabilitation of the fisheries sector in northern Cebu eight months from yesterday.
